New funds in December: IEBS, KKR and Udekta capital

Udekta Capital is a new venture capital fund for companies that are on MAB or plan to exit in less than two years. In addition to Udekta, IEBS has created its first fund and KKR has announced a new fund for technology companies, which has its sights set on Spain.

Cybersecurity companies need to grow both in innovative technology and in new markets if they are to be competitive in an industry that is constantly innovating. One of the ways to grow is through acquisitions. Akami, for example, has made 17 acquisitions in the sector in order to position itself as one of the leading companies. In addition, private equity is also making acquisitions with the aim of growing companies and then being able to sell. Golden Gate Capital, for example, invested this month in Neustar.

Portobello Capital wins Capcorp Impulsa 2016 award

The Carcorp Impulsa award recognises the fund (national and international) that has most boosted the private equity sector in Spain in the last two years. It is also the only Spanish fund among the TOP 100 European Fund Managers according to PEI (Private Equity International). In 2015 Portobello sold its portfolio of investees bought before 2014 to an American secondary fund and in the last two years has invested in 12 companies.

"Given the current moment of effervescence of this type of technology, you have to take advantage of the pull to grow more and better. To do this, either you have a lot of cash or you carry out investment rounds. Otherwise, other companies with more muscle like IBM will come along and overtake you, no matter how much you suspect you have better technology. It's a way to be able to invest in R&D and continue to have a good product," says an Inbenta executive.
