With the purchase, the company - which develops innovative products and specialised services to help make smarter decisions - comes to Spain to strengthen its international presence and incorporate Confirma's anti-fraud and anti-money laundering tools into its portfolio of solutions.
About Confirma
It is a Spanish company, based in Madrid founded in 2011, which has two main lines of activity: fraud risk prevention solutions for financial institutions, retail and banks, with which it helps customers in decision-making processes and detect identity fraud at the time of application; and technological solutions for the prevention of money laundering, which are used by entities regulated by law 10/2010 on the prevention of money laundering and terrorist financing, such as banking, insurance, consumer credit, retail, telecommunications or utilities.
About Callcredit
Callcredit is a specialist in credit reporting, database marketing solutions and fraud and analytics software and an expert in managing customer data across all industries and sectors. The company, founded in 2000 in the UK, was acquired in 2014 by the investment fund GTCR.
This operation has provided Callcredir with sufficient liquidity to carry out an expansion process by means of acquisitionsThe purchase of Confirma Sistemas, however, is its first outside the UK. In March 2016 Callcredit bought Numero, a customer experience management specialist, to boost its analytics software business. It then bought Recipero, a big data company that detects fraud on mobile phones.
Callcredit is currently the second largest credit reference agency in the UK. The company employs 1,200 professionals in offices in the UK, USA, Spain, Japan, China, Dubai and Lithuania.
Why did Callcredit decide to buy Confirma?
The acquisition of Confirma, which is strategic for Callcredit as it will enable the development of the entity's risk management and fraud prevention business areas, represents the company's entry into Spain with the aim of strengthening its presence in a market in constant growth thanks to technological innovation.
The purchase of Confirma Solutions, although not for its size (the company had a turnover of €250,000 in 2015), is a good opportunity to consolidate in new geographic markets and acquire new clients. Confirma currently has 40 clients, including the most important banks and consumer credit institutions. The fact that they have chosen Spain for this expansion is due to the fact that Callcredit has already been working with Spanish companies since 2015 and has already successfully completed operations with local clients.
As part of the acquisition, staff growth is foreseen in order to continue the planned investments in the region.
Spain is one of the few European countries in which Callcredit is open to competition, in France it is impossible for a private company to offer these solutions as the management of these files is reserved for the direct competence of the central bank, and in other countries such as Germany and Italy it is almost impracticable due to the monopoly position of the operating agents.
