NEA, Andreessen Horowitz, Accel Partners: Most active investors in big data
Investment in big data analytics companies grew considerably in 2015, when 73 rounds were made for an amount of $$1.8B. In the first half of 2016, investment seems to have fallen a little, with 25 rounds.
Big data and analytics, a sector to invest in?

The majority of the rounds closed in 2016 are early-stage rounds, which shows that this is a sector where innovation is taking place, where there is still a long way to go, and where products are still being tested in the market. However, the fact that renowned investors such as Andreessen Horowitz and Accel Partners, are among the most active investors in the sector, make big data for analytics a sector in which it makes sense to invest.

New Enterprise Associates

The most active investor New Enterprise Associateshas participated in a total of 17 rounds in the big data sector for data analytics. New Enterprise invests in companies in very different sectors, ranging from the energy sector to the technology sector, including healthcare. It also participates in rounds at different stages. This year 2016 we have detected that it has participated in both seed rounds (Node) and very advanced rounds (Onshape $105M).

NEA, he has also been involved in Spanish companies such as Wallapopwhich it entered last year to push the virtual second-hand marketplace as it expands across the US.

Among the investments it has made in the big data analytics sector, it is worth highlighting the one made in Pentaho in 2012, for being one of the first rounds made in the sector, as well as for the amount raised ($23M), which was quite high for a big data company in 2012. In 2015 Pentaho was sold to Hitachi Data Systems. Pentaho is a business intelligence tool that analyses business data and allows you to make reports.

The last investment made in this sector was in September 2016, in the company DataRobot. The $33M round was led by Nea, but other investors such as Accomplice and Intel Capital also participated. DataRobot is a predictive analytics platform for companies.

Andreessen Horowitz

The second most active investor, with 15 deals closed in the sector in Andreessen Horowitz. This American investor has invested in companies and has included among the 16 most investable trends in the coming years, machine learning, together with big data that allows analytical prediction.

Among the companies in which Andressen Horrowitz has invested in the sector is Platfora.
