Food distribution finally changing?

In the last year, several initiatives have emerged in the food distribution sector with new models. Several of them have attracted the attention of investors and are ready to take on the big players such as Mercadona, Carrrefour and Eroski.

«Estos operadores tradicionales mantienen su presencia en internet como una necesidad pero no, como una apuesta estratégica de futuro. Los nuevos modelos vienen a aportar mejoras sustanciales en la logística y en la experiencia de usuario en la compra online. La ventaja de precio, aunque se utilice de manera promocional, es difícil que una nueva iniciativa pueda acceder a mejores condiciones con volúmenes mucho más bajos» comenta Diego Gutierez (ABRA INVEST)

Ulabox.com: agile distribution with reach throughout Spain

Ulabox is the brainchild of the US group Quidsi -Diapers.com, Soap.com, Casa.com, among others-, which has revolutionised the formula for sending low-margin products quickly by robotising warehouses, optimising the space of the packages in which the products are sent, and reaching agreements with local courier companies, which are more agile. Ulabox is able to deliver in 24 hours throughout Spain, even less if you buy before 13:00 hours. The difference with respect to the competition lies in its reach throughout Spain, which it achieves by stocking more references - they have 3,000 - in each category and with local courier companies.

Your other super: discounts of up to 50%

It is an online sales portal that offers discounts of up to 50% on products from leading brands in the field of distribution, such as Vileda, Scottex and Pepsi. Ignacio Alba, director and co-founder of the company, estimates the initial investment of shareholders in 2011 at 500,000 euros round led by the former president of Spanair Ferrán Soriano. In 2012 they have also closed a round of investment by Caixa Capital Risk and accompanied by Mr. Soriano.

The comparator model: new models

Carritus focuses its attention on the web, where it offers a supermarket product price comparison tool. It has been the pioneer in the sector and is making an important commitment to become the reference for all users looking to save on their shopping basket.

Soysuper.comThe new supermarket is a new type of supermarket that allows you to make your shopping list and compare the prices of the main online supermarkets in Spain in a quick and easy way.
