Enterprise content managers get venture capital backing

Platforms that manage enterprise content have been on the market for years, but since 2013 seven companies have received funding from investors to accelerate its growth not only in the US but also in India and Europe.

Opentext: the industry's IPO

Opentext,  founded in 1991 with Canadian headquarters, has recently raised $100M after its IPO. It is a leading player in the Enterprise Content Management (ECM) industry.

The Open Text ECM Suite brings together the content management capabilities needed to manage different types of enterprise content, including business documents, vital records, Web content, digital assets (images, audio and video), email, forms and reports, along with collaborative tools for team and community projects and workspaces, forums, blogs, wikis, and real-time instant messaging and collaboration. The Open Text ECM Suite also provides business process management tools that are designed to enable organisations to build processes that connect their employees and content.

Newgen: the Indian benchmark owned by SAP

Newgen, founded in New Delhi in 1992, was awarded $7.65M in 2008 from HSBC Private Equity (Asia) and SAP ventures.
It has recently received $17.6M of IDG Ventures India and Ascent Capital Group. The company intends to expand its business in North America, focusing primarily on the healthcare, public administration and shared services hub sectors.

Latest trends in product development

Enterprise content management platforms have been around for some time, but several new development trends are fuelling the interest and usefulness of these tools:
– El tratamiento de contenido no estructurado mediante análisis semántico que necesita de experiencia sectorial y favorece el desarrollo de verticales.
– La gestión de contenido proveniente de diferentes fuentes de información.
– La conexión del ECM con otras plataformas como las de gestión de procesos y la gestión de la comunicación con los clientes.
– El desarrollo de nuevas herramientas de visualización de la información que faciliten al usuario la gestión de la herramienta y la extracción de conclusiones y el análisis.
