Spain supports agri-food innovation and research
The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and the Environment has drawn up the National Agri-Food and Forestry Innovation and Research Programme to support innovation in the sector. The agri-food sector is facing a crucial challenge for society: the demand for food must be met on a global scale, in an increasingly populated planet subject to the effects of climate change. To meet this challenge, the world markets for food and agricultural products must be supplied, increasing food production, quality and safety, and satisfying consumer needs and demands at reasonable prices.

Aim and objectives of the programme

The Programme aims to promote R&D&I in the agri-food and forestry sectors, in order to produce more efficiently and sustainably and to be more competitive in national and international markets.

Objectives:

Identifying and prioritising the needs and opportunities of the sector.

Include the action lines in national and EU R&D&I programming and funding.

Facilitate and promote the dissemination, participation, communication and transfer of results between the actors in the sector (farmers, producers, researchers, universities, companies, administrations, technology platforms, etc.) and guide them in the innovation process.
