Healthcare does not feel the impact of the crisis
VENTURE CAPITALHealthcare is one of the few sectors that has not been affected by the crisis. Venture Capital in this sector has grown considerably, from 28 operations in 2009 to 37 in 2013.

 

Most popular sectors

Healthcare systems companies have been the leading players since 2006, accounting for 45% of the sector's operations.

Medical record systems, such as Valant,  are in second place with 23% of operations.

Valant is a Seattle-based software company that provides an electronic medical record for physicians. Since its founding in 2013, it has received 3 rounds of funding, most recently $748K led by  Alliance of Algels.

Health technology sector in Spain.

In Spain, this sector is also enjoying considerable success.A study The results of a study carried out by 6 Spanish health centres, including the Clínic, show the positive return that the investment  in ICT projects has in the healthcare field at the level of clinical quality and safety, as well as in economic terms, which can be quantified and measured.

The company Stat Diagnostica which develops diagnostic systems for patients, has closed a new round 17M last June 2013. The round was led by Idinvest Funds, Boehringer Ingelheim Venture Fund and Caixa Capital RiscThe venture capital manager of La Caixa, as well as the existing investors Ysios Capitalwhich becomes the main shareholder, and Axis.
También en 2013,siguiendo el auge inversor en empresas de «diagnóstico de enfermedades»,  la multinacional Catalana Grifols bought 60% of the share capital of the Basque biotech company Progenikadedicated to the design, production and commercialisation of in vitro genomic diagnostic tests, disease prognosis and prediction of response to pharmacological therapy.
Medprivé Healthcarea pioneering company in the commercialisation of private medicine over the Internet, has closed its first round of financing with €500k, led by Luís Martín Cabiedes from Cabiedes & Partners, referente en las ‘start-ups’ relacionadas con Internet.
