Nokia buys health gadget company Withings and enters E-health world
The Finnish giant has seen the opportunity that the e-health sector can offer and has bought the company Withing for $170M. The E-health sector has a lot of potential: the market is demanding it and this makes investors interested in the sector.

E-health investment in 2015

According to a study by Cbinsights, in 2015 the number of e-health transactions exceeded even those carried out in the biotech sector, although it is true that the volume invested in the biotech sector was higher.

Investment in the e-health sector reached more than $5.8B invested in 2015 with almost 900 deals closed.

Although the financing rounds have not been of very high amounts, due to the fact that the sector is still in a growth phase, companies such as  Guahao ($395M) , ZocDoc ( $130M) , y 23andMe($225.55M) have received a large amount of funding.

Spanish E-health companies that have received funding this year: Tedcas, Neurobia research, and Nire-Iheath.

If last year we saw that platforms that put doctors and patients in contact with each other were one of the most active e-health sectors, this year we are already seeing funding in other sub-sectors such as patient diagnosis or helping doctors to carry out their work.

Tedcas has developed the TedCube plug&play solution that allows, through gesture control and voice commands, to operate different devices in the operating room, which translates into greater asepsis, time and cost savings and improved patient safety by avoiding the diversion of the focus of the surgeon's activity. This company received a €500,000 round in February in which they participated, SodenaStart Up Capitalprivate investors belonging to the Crecer+ network and the promoter team.

The objective of this round is to boost TedCube's commercial activity and scale its business in Europe. To this end, TedCas will strengthen its current management team with the incorporation of high-level executives, all of them with extensive commercial and business development experience in the medical sector.

Tedcas had previously received a €1M round of funding, used by the current management team to develop, patent and certify the TedCube product and then move into the first phase of commercialisation.

Neurobia Researchwhich will allow quantitative assessment and rehabilitation of people who have suffered some kind of brain damage, especially cerebrovascular accidents such as strokes, head injuries and tumours, has closed a €70,000 round of funding thanks to The network of private investors from BusinessInFact.

In the words of its CEO, "Nire iHealth is a high-tech startup. We help people take care of themselves and exercise control over their lifestyle through remote assistance from doctors and other health specialists. We have designed a system that interprets each person's health status and tastes to create tailored health recommendations, offering them the easiest way to take care of themselves". This company, based in Bilbao and with work centres in Bogotá and Abu Dhabi, is currently aiming to consolidate its position in Latin America, as well as to continue to increase the number of users.
