M&A forecasts in Spain for 2015
2014 has been a very important year for M&A in Spain, with operations reaching an investment of €79,500M, a figure not reached since 2007, and large operations by corporations, which had been years without buying to restructure their balance sheet. Although there is still a long way to go, it seems that 2015 will be the year of the consolidation of M&A in Spain, and will have these trends as protagonists.
MWC 2015 news and conclusions
The Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, which was held from 2 to 5 March, closed its doors with new participation records: 93,000 people attended the MWCB, of which 52% held managerial positions. 2,000 companies participated in this congress, which is no longer a mobile congress, but an ICT, mobility and telecommunications trade fair. 8,000 professionals, including 250 international investors, attended the 4FYN meeting, a figure four times higher than the previous year's attendance.
Impact of European R&D&I programmes in the energy sector
More than 600 energy projects have been supported by Europe in the 6th (2002-2006) and 7th (2007-2013) Framework Programmes for Research and Technological Development. The success rate has been 20%. The area that has obtained the most funding is bioenergy, obtaining a total of €527M followed by energy efficiency and smart grids. The average funding rate has increased from 48% to 58% in the 7th FP due to the increase of the maximum rate for certain types of legal entities such as SMEs.
EMPLEA 2015 funding for recruitment of university graduates
The application period for the EMPLEA 2015 grants is now open. These are grants for the hiring of technologists for their exclusive participation in R&D projects. The grants also include compulsory training that the technologists must undertake. This year, as a novelty, only technologists with University Degrees (Middle or Higher) will be able to participate.
Torres Quevedo 2015: grants for the recruitment of PhDs and doctoral students
The application period for the aid for the recruitment of PhDs ("Ayuda Torres Quevedo") and PhD students ("Ayuda Doctorandos Industriales") that the Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness offers for the incorporation of human resources dedicated to R&D and innovation in Spain is now open.
Outlook for the hotel sector in 2015
The tourism GDP closed 2014 with a growth of 2.9% compared to the previous year. Moreover, in 2014 hotel investment exceeded 1,000 million, the third best figure in 20 years.
