M&A in the tourism IT sector: Amadeus leads in buyouts
Amadeus, which has traditionally offered solutions for airlines, has invested more than €1.2 billion since 2013 in acquisitions to diversify its business and reduce its dependence on the airline business. In 2015, Amadeus acquired four companies to strengthen its position in the airport, hotel and travel agency travel sectors.

Acquisition of AirIt Services to grow in US airport market

The operation is part of the strategy with which the company headed by Luis Maroto plans to diversify its business: hotels, railways, airports, travel intelligence, payments and new media...

With this purchase, Amadeus strengthens its airport solutions in the US, a key region in this market where it had little presence. AirIT solutions are used by 30 of the 50 busiest airports in the US, including Atlanta, Dallas, Los Angeles, Miami and Charlotte.

"Already in 2014 Amadeus bought UFIS Airport Solutions, headquartered in Singapore, which provides services at airports around the world, especially in Asia, the Middle East and Europe, and now wants to strengthen its presence in the US," says Diego Gutierrez of Abra-Invest.

Amadeus buys the 24.9% Hiberus Travel 10 solutions in the holiday rental market

Hiberus Travel IO Solutions owns Travelio, one of the most technologically advanced holiday product management platforms on the market.

With this operation, Hiberus Travel IO Solutions and Amadeus are also committed to continuous investment in R&D&I to develop a multi-channel platform that integrates products and services from multiple operators and allows travel agencies to build an à la carte offer and distribute it to their customers.

Amadeus acquires Itesso to expand its hotel offering

Itesso BVm is a provider of cloud-based property management systems (PMS) based in the Netherlands.

Amadeus has already acquired US-based group and event specialist Newmarket in 2013 to grow the hotel supply market, and is also working with InterContinental Hotel Group to develop a next-generation guest reservation system (GRS) in this area.

The agreement with Itesso brings it closer to its goal of unifying centralised reservation systems (CRS), property management systems (PMS), revenue management systems (RMS), sales and catering and other systems into a cloud-based community model platform that focuses entirely on the guest experience.

Amadeus buys Navitaire

Amadeus has acquired its subsidiary from Accenture Navitaire for 750M, which provides solutions that enable airlines to generate revenue and rationalise costs in the areas of reservations, add-on sales, customer loyalty programmes, revenue management and accounting, and business intelligence.
