About Amadeus Ventures

Amadeus Ventures, the corporate investment arm of Spanish technology firm Amadeus IT Group, is an investment programme in travel and technology startups. It is an initiative launched by Amadeus in 2014 focused on investing in startups in the Travel Tech sector.

Its portfolio includes startups such as Avuxi, Betterez, Bluesmart, BookingPal, Flyr, Olset, Yapta and Situm Technologies itself. Amadeus Ventures also made an investment in Cabify, which it successfully liquidated in 2015.

About Situm Technologies

Situm Technologies is a Galician startup that offers an "indoor GPS" aimed at travellers in airports, stations and conference centres.

These indoor positioning, tracking and navigation (IPS) services are based on a location algorithm that leverages information from all available smartphone sensors in a collaborative way (such as Wi-Fi, magnetometer, Bluetooth Low Energy and user movement prediction based on inertial sensors).

In this way, users can use their mobile device to guide themselves inside large buildings such as airports, stations, buildings and museums. In addition, Situm allows managers of airports, train stations, conference centres and hotels to see in real time the movements of their staff, optimise the distribution of resources to improve traffic, reinforce security services and perform analysis to improve geomarketing and segmentation.

IPS technology was developed in response to the problem of conventional GPS malfunctioning indoors, which is due to the loss of intensity of the microwaves used to identify locations and their deflection by roofs, walls and other objects.

Founded in 2014 in Santiago de Compostela by three PhDs in Engineering, Situm has its IPS technology installed in more than 1600 buildings worldwide, including hospitals, shopping centres and corporate headquarters, offering high-precision localisation (down to 1 metre) with minimum complexity and infrastructure investment.

Amadeus Ventures invests in Situm Technologies

Amadeus Ventures, a venture capital firm of Spain's Amadeus IT Group, has made an investment in Situm Technologies, a company that develops IPS (indoor GPS) technologies, together with Unirisco and Xesgalicia. Financial details of the deal have not been disclosed. Situm Technologies is the latest addition to the Amadeus Ventures portfolio since its creation in 2014.
