Microsoft has made a total of 10 acquisitions in 2016. This is one of the largest deals ever closed in the technology sector and a sign of Microsoft's strategy: to move from the era of personal computers and services to artificial intelligence in all spheres, through cloud services and mobile devices. What other companies has it bought?
Microsoft bets on artificial intelligence
After an era in which the PC boom was left behind, Microsoft is making great efforts to enter niche markets with potential in order to be able to compete with its competitors. One of these is look at the most recent artificial intelligence. First they launched entertainment apps such as Tay, a bot that we could act with, then they used artificial intelligence to ayudar a los invidentes y personas con dificultades en la visión.
Buy Apps to compete with the big boys
Microsoft lleva tiempo realizado acquisitions en el mercado de las apps, ya que considera que si su plataforma Windows Mobile quiere competir contra Android e iOS necesita tener las mejores aplicaciones posibles.
Among the purchases it has made this year, we find Xamarin, a company focused on the development of multi-platform mobile applications, and the purchase of Groove, one of Apple music's competing apps, which uses machine learning to offer music streaming.
Microsoft's commitment to the IoT
Microsoft has also invested in IoT in 2016. It has acquired Solair, a startup that has been operating in the enterprise Internet of Things market for five years.
Solair is a five-year-old Italian startup with experience in the IoT market, targeting verticals such as manufacturing, retail, food and beverage and transport.
With the purchase, Microsoft will help its customers leverage their untapped data and business intelligence through the Internet of Things.. Microsoft will integrate Solair's solutions into its Azure cloud platform and Azure IoT Suite, launched last year. It could also be leveraged by connecting with other services such as Azure Stream Analytics and Azure Storage.
