Microsoft has made a total of 10 mergers and acquisitions in 2016. After an era in which the PC boom was left behind, Microsoft is making great efforts to enter niche markets with potential in order to be able to compete with its competitors. Microsoft has also invested in IoT in 2016. It has acquired Solair, a startup that has been operating in the enterprise Internet of Things market for five years.
Solair is a five-year-old Italian startup with experience in the IoT market, targeting verticals such as manufacturing, retail, food and beverage and transport.
With the purchase, Microsoft will help its customers leverage their untapped data and business intelligence through the Internet of Things.. Microsoft will integrate Solair's solutions into its Azure cloud platform and Azure IoT Suite, launched last year. It could also be leveraged by connecting with other services such as Azure Stream Analytics and Azure Storage.
