The media and publishing sector is going strong. In the first few months of this year, a number of takeovers have been confirmed in the sector. The companies Prensa Ibérica or Editorial Ecoprensa can attest to this.

We have analysed five operations of sales of companies in the sector and always with some link to companies located in Spain. We talked about the two parties involved in each transaction and the reasons why they decided to carry out these operations. The sales were as follows:
1. Editorial Ecoprensa
La Editorial Ecoprensa was founded in 2005 and since then has been dedicated to the publication of the newspaper "El Economista".. This newspaper was launched on 28 February 2006, being the first Spanish daily with integrated paper and internet newsrooms from the beginning.
On 12 February we met the sale of a part of Editorial Ecoprensa to GINgroup. Although the amount of the transaction has not been disclosed, we know that the percentage of the shareholding was 20.6%.
GINgroupis a provider of consulting services and integrated solutions for human capital management based in Juarez, Mexico. With the acquisition, GINgroup strengthens the international expansion of its publishing business.
2. Editorial Leoncio Rodriguez
8 February Iberian Press reached an agreement with the El Día group to the purchase of the majority stake it holds in Editorial Leoncio Rodríguez. The amounts of the operation have not been published.
El Día is a historic masthead that took over from La Prensa, a newspaper whose first issue saw the light of day, under the editorship of Leoncio Rodríguez, on 15 October 1910. Since then it has been a reference publication in Tenerife. El Día has 130,447 daily readers in print and 385,318 unique users per month in digital.
The agreement guarantees the economic viability of El Día and consolidates Prensa Ibéricawhich already publishes La Opinión de Tenerife, as the leading media group in the Canary Islands, where it will exceed 265,000 daily readers and 25,000 daily copies. Prensa Ibérica's plans to relaunch the newspaper, modernise its structures and turn its financial situation around are as follows reaffirm their commitment to the Canary Islandsthe region where the group took its first steps.
3. Iberian Legal Group
Iberian Legal Group, founded in 2005 and headquartered in Madrid, is a Madrid-based company. specialising in information on the legal sector. También es editora de los contenidos de Iberian Lawyer y The Latin American Lawyer.
LC Publishing Group,, an Italian publishing group specialising in tax and legal publications, bought the 60% from Iberian Legal Group on 30 January. The amounts of the transaction have not been made public.
The acquisition will enable the Italian company to create the largest specialist legal publisher in Southern Europe and Latin America. It will also maximise the publishing synergies between the two groupsThis is part of LC Publishing Group's international development strategy.
4. Touché Films
2btube Studios (Madrid), a company dedicated to the management of audiovisual content creators and the creation of original contentacquired a majority stake in Touché Films on 17 January. The amount of the transaction and the percentage acquired were not confirmed by either party.
Touché Films, based in Quito (Ecuador), is one of the world's leading fastest-growing audiovisual content producers in Latin America and is the creator of Enchufe.tv. This channel has more than 19 million subscribers and has major brands and creators as partners. Despite being a young production company, it has already made medium-length films, series, advertising and its first feature film, scheduled for release in 2019.
5. Investor Editions
Digital Economy, a Spanish company dedicated to media management, acquired on 8 January 100% from Inversor Ediciones. The purchase was made over the company Taller de Editores, which is a subsidiary of Vocento, and over other minority shareholders. The amount of the transaction was not made public. With this acquisition, Economía Digital expects to increase its turnover by 35%.
Investor editions is a publisher of economic-financial books. They have published books with manuals on how to value a listed company or on ratios to know for an investor.
Following the transaction, the weekly Inversión and its online portal, Finanzas.com, have been taken over by Economía Digital, which publishes Economiadigital.es, Diariogol.com, Cerodosbe.com and ED Libros.
