Ec2ce, a Spanish company applying big data to agriculture, receives €1M
In this round, they have brought in a large number of prestigious professionals in various fields to support an expansion plan that includes as a priority its commercial landing in the United States. It also maintains its strategies and operations in Spain and Europe.
About Ec2ce

Ec2ce applies big data to help agribusiness and livestock companies in their strategic, commercial and agronomic management decision-making processes through tools based on predictive models that anticipate the annual harvest, productivity, pest evolution and fertigation needs in order to optimise crop results and subsequent marketing.

This Sevillian company was created in 2014 by Ricardo Arjona (President and CTO) and Pedro Carrillo (CEO), two former executives of Abengoa. Rixardo and Pedro, have so far led the sustainable growth of the company to be in a position to address an accelerated expansion, the main objective of this company.

In 2016 it was one of the start-ups selected by 'Andalucía Open Future', an initiative of Telefónica and the Andalusian Regional Government to support technology companies that are just starting out, providing it with valuable experience to tackle this new phase of growth.

A project promoted by Andalucía Open Future

Ec2ce has signed a contract to adapt its technology to the Andalusian countryside and predict the evolution of the olive fruit fly (the greatest threat to olive oil producers). The firm's business consists of creating a database with different crop variables, climate, environmental conditions, biological characteristics of the fly and the layout of the plants, thanks to a team of engineers and mathematicians. This is synchronised with a prediction of plant growth. With this, they can predict the appearance of a pest and its subsequent evolution, making the phytosanitary treatment cheaper and more effective. This project has been carried out within the Andalucía Open Future business accelerator of Telefónica and the Junta de Andalucía.

What rounds have there been in the last year in big data companies applied to agriculture?

Ec2ce operates in the AgTech space, where overall double-digit annual growth is expected over the next six years. In the last year, we have already seen large rounds, especially in the US.
