The e-health sector is coming to our country, according to a study carried out by Startupxplore, the number of startups in the eHealth sector grew by 53% in 2015 compared to the previous year. In addition, we have already seen the first startups in the eHealth sector acquisitions in the sector, such as the purchase of Emedica by the technology company Alcor.
Alcor buys Emedica and takes advantage of the synergies it may have with Mizar Additive, a group company.
The Alcor Group, an industrial group specialising in the creation and development of technology companies, acquired in March a majority stake of eMedicaa company dedicated to the development of medical imaging technology to provide healthcare informatics tools in specialties such as oncology, vascularisation and prosthetics.
This acquisition is the result of a joint venture between the Alcor Group and Vicomtech its reference partner, for the development of new medical software applications, taking advantage of the synergies that eMedica has with a group company, Mizar Additive, dedicated to additive manufacturing and with an important presence in the medical sector. Alcor has already started 3D printing models of aortas to help surgeons in their surgical planning.
eMedica develops specific E-Health solutions for specialties ranging from oncology to prosthetics. For example, one of its products allows objective evaluation of the response of oncology patients to treatment, comparing the patient's condition with criteria established by the medical community.
The company also develops tools that allow pre-operative planning of endovascular repairs, the design of aortic prostheses needed by the patient, and even post-operative follow-up of endoprostheses. Moreover, in addition to developing E-Health solutions, eMedica participates in turnkey projects.
The transaction will allow eMedica to enter a new phase of expansion and a strong foothold in the medical imaging market.
