Is Corporate Venture Capital making a comeback?

Corporate venture capital (VC) investing is back again. Some of the most prominent names in the business landscape, including BMW Group, General Electric (GE), and Google, have established formal venture capital units and made investments in start-ups.

Many other companies are doing the same, in fact, more than 750 companies worldwide currently have Venture Capital units in operation or making venture investments, according to industry publication global capital investment (GCV) . In addition, the CVC has broadened the focus of its investments from traditional technology and pharmaceuticals operations to such diverse fields as machinery, energy and gas production, consumer products, and construction.

This move by large companies should also be applied to the much-needed SME and family businesses.
