JANUARY. MásMóvil Ibercom buys Llamaya from More Minutes Comunications

MásMóvil Ibercom, a Spanish telecommunications company, has acquired the business unit of More Minutes Communications, known as Llamaya, for €29.7 million, plus a variable amount that could reach an additional €12 million. Llamaya operates as a Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO) focused on the ethnic segment, mainly Central American, with 170,000 active customers.

 

FEBRUARY. Cellnex Telecom acquires 1,800 urban sites in France

Cellnex Telecom, a Barcelona-based telecommunications services provider, has agreed to purchase, through its subsidiary Cellnex France, 1,800 urban sites in France owned until now by Bouygues Telecom. The deal is worth €500 million. The deal includes a project to build an additional 1,200 sites for €354 million.

 

MARCH. Melesur buys Aditel

Melesur, a Spanish company specialising in engineering, installations and environmental works, has acquired fellow Spanish company Aditel for €6M. Aditel, based in Alcalá de Guadaíra, Seville, provides services related to electrical installations, energy and telecommunications.

 

APRIL. Ufinet acquires the telecommunications business of IFX Networks.

Ufinet, which provides telecommunications services in Colombia and is controlled by UK private equity firm Cinven, has acquired the network and wholesale business of IFX Networks. The deal is worth €100 million.

 

MAY. Abertis agrees to acquire 33.69% of Hispasat from Eutelsat Communications.

Abertis, the Spanish mobility and telecommunications infrastructure management company, has agreed to acquire an additional 33.69% in the Spanish satellite operator Hispasat from France's Eutelsat Communications. With the transaction, valued at €302M, Abertis increases its stake in Hispasat to 90.74%.

 

JUNE. Angels Capital becomes Sothis Group's sole shareholder

The venture capital firm controlled by Juan Roig Angels Capital acquired 25.6% from the founders Jorge Hilario and Joaquín Alcober of Grupo Sothis, which specialises in network engineering, networking and communications, becoming its sole shareholder. The amount of the transaction has not been made public.

 

JULY. Euskaltel acquires Telecable de Asturias from Zegona.

The Spanish telecommunications company Euskaltel has closed the acquisition of the Spanish company Parselaya, owner of Telecable de Asturias, from the British company Zegona. The deal amounts to €441 million plus €245 million of net debt.

 

AUGUST. Telefónica and the Government of Colombia agree to subscribe to a capital increase in Coltel.

Coltel (Colombia Telecomunicaciones) has announced that it will carry out two capital increases for an aggregate amount of approximately €1844M, which will be fully subscribed by its shareholders Telefónica and the Government of Colombia. The shareholding structure of the company will remain unchanged following the transaction, with Telefónica retaining its 67.5% and the Colombian government holding the remaining 32.5%.

 

SEPTEMBER. Cellnex Telecom closes the acquisition of Swiss Towers from Sunrise.

A consortium comprising Cellnex Telecom (54%), Swiss Life Asset Managers (28%) and Deutsche Telekom Capital Partners (18%), has closed the acquisition of Swiss Towers from Sunrise for €430M. Swiss Towers is a telecommunications company operating 2,239 telephony sites in Switzerland.

 

OCTOBER. KKR acquires 24.8% of Telxius from Telefónica.

Taurus Bidco, a Luxembourg-based company managed by US private equity firm KKR, has closed the acquisition of a 24.8% stake in Spain's Telxius from Telefónica for €790.5M. The deal also includes a call option by KKR and a put option by Telefónica on an additional 15.2% of Telxius for at least €484.5M.

 

NOVEMBER. KKR agrees to exercise the call option on Telxius.

KKR has agreed to execute an option to purchase 15.2% of Telxius from Telefónica for €484.5M, controlling 40% of the company. The transfer of 15.2% of Telxius is expected in December 2017.

 

DECEMBER. Telecom Argentina completes takeover of Sofora Telecomunicaciones, Nortel Inversora and Telecom Personal

Telecom Argentina has completed the merger by absorption of Sofora Telecomunicaciones, Nortel Inversora and Telecom Personal, after transferring the operations of the absorbed companies to Telecom Argentina. Financial details of the transaction have not been disclosed.
