Eurostars, a financing opportunity for R&D projects among SMEs
The Eurostars call for proposals has been launched with the aim of helping small and medium-sized enterprises to develop innovative products, services and/or processes so that they can be introduced and commercialised on the market and thus boost the competitiveness of the European business fabric. These grants are promoted by the Eureka initiative and the European Commission through Horizon 2020. The call will be open until 18 February 2016 and is presented in 2 phases.

Requirements for beneficiaries

The Eurostars programme requires a consortium of at least two independent European companies.

for projects with a maximum duration of 36 months, the project leader must be an SME from a "Eurostars" country carrying out R&D activities. The project includes at least two entities legally independent from each other. In addition, the budget of the participating SME(s) belonging to the Eurostars country(ies) must account for at least 50% of the total project budget.

Type of aid

Subsidy that varies according to the type of project.

For experimental development projects: 25% of the eligible project costs.

For industrial research projects: 50% of the eligible project costs.

In addition, the aid intensity may be increased up to a maximum of 80% of the eligible costs, as indicated below:

(a) in 10% for medium-sized enterprises and in 20% for small enterprises;

b) in 15% if the project involves effective collaboration or if the results of the project are disseminated by means of conferences or publications.
