CDTI produces a quick guide to H2020
Horizon 2020 (H2020) is the Programme for Research and Innovation in the European Union for the period 2014-2020. The Cdti has drawn up a quick guide with its main characteristics detailed below.

Horizon 2020

Horizon 2020, with a total budget of €77.028M, is designed to fund research, technological development, demonstration and innovation initiatives and projects, in general of transnational collaboration, at all stages of the process from research to market.

The programme focuses on 3 pillars, strengthening the Union's scientific excellence at global level, accelerating the development of technologies to enable European SMEs to become world-leading companies and providing a direct response to the policy priorities and challenges identified in the Europe 2020 strategy.

Opportunities for SMEs

H2020 relies on SMEs as a source of innovation, growth and jobs in Europe, which is why it offers a number of measures specifically targeted at SMEs.

In addition to collaborative research and innovation projects and staff exchange actions to improve technology transfer between public institutions and companies, which have already been contemplated in previous calls, H2020 now offers the possibility for SMEs to participate in specific SME instrument projects, access "risk financing" and benefit from a range of services linked to innovation.

The specific projects of the SME project are aimed at SMEs that want to grow or internationalise through innovative projects in the European Union. These projects are proposed as very open topics in "Social Challenges" and "Industrial Leadership".

Under the "access to risk finance" programme, SMEs will have at their disposal a set of financial intermediaries from which they can request either capital, guarantees or counter-guarantees with Horizon 2020 funds for their R&D projects.
