Good health for corporate investors

According to CBinsights data, the Novo Group tops the list of the most active corporate investors in the healthcare sector in terms of level of investment and number of deals. Johnson & Johnson and Novartis complete the top three.

1TP2Q1.81B of investment up 241TP1Q from previous quarter

Investment and exits in the healthcare sector made a strong comeback during 2Q13. Not only did capital invested and funded in healthcare companies reach 1.81B$ (up 24% from 1Q13) but investment in early stage companies also grew to the 5th highest quarter. In addition, IPO deals sweetened a moribund market with 11 VC-funded companies taken to IPO during 2Q13.

Top 3: Novo Group, Johnson & Johnson and Novartis

Based on levels of M&A activity, the Denmark-based Novo Group tops the list with more than 50 investments made in health-related companies. Just behind the Novo Group are Swiss-based pharmaceutical giants Johnson & Johnson and Novartis, both of which maintain their private equity arms.

Pharmaceutical companies among the top 10 most active corporate investors across all sectors
