The current global pandemic has given a sudden boost to the Educational Technology or EdTech sector, as explained in the article \"The EdTech sector is a global pandemic.Edtech and Covid-19<\/a>\"The data on the largest and most important mergers and acquisitions<\/a> in 2020 and the most active companies in the sector. Educational Technology could be defined as the use of resources, processes and technological systems for the improvement or management of the learning process, from design to implementation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The movement in the sector, as described in the Investment Analysis by Baker Tilly<\/a>, se ha visto incrementado en casi todos los \u00e1mbitos del mismo como en la financiaci\u00f3n realizada o las mergers and acquisitions<\/a>, en definitiva, inversiones. Como se observa en el siguiente gr\u00e1fico el n\u00famero de mergers and acquisitions<\/a> aumentaron ya en el 2019 y se mantuvieron m\u00e1s o menos constantes en este pasado 2020 (representado por las columnas). Por otro lado, a trav\u00e9s de la l\u00ednea oscura, se muestra la variaci\u00f3n de la mediana de las operaciones de cada a\u00f1o. Como vemos ha aumentado con respecto al a\u00f1o pasado.

In this article we will focus on two major transactions in the past year 2020. The acquisition of Pluralsight <\/a>by Vista Equity Partners<\/a> and the one carried out by Adtalem Global Education<\/a> who bought Walden Univesity<\/a>.

Mayores mergers and acquisitions<\/a> en 2020: Vista Equity Partners adquiere Pluralsight por 3.500 millones de d\u00f3lares<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

El 13 de diciembre de 2020 se anunci\u00f3 una de las mayores mergers and acquisitions<\/a> en 2020, la compra masiva por parte de Vista Equity Partners. Esta firma de inversi\u00f3n, centrada en las compa\u00f1\u00edas de software, datos y tecnolog\u00eda, ha realizado m\u00e1s de 70 mergers and acquisitions<\/a> a lo largo de su historia y 35 inversiones, siendo en 29 de ellas el principal inversor (informaci\u00f3n sacada de Crunchbase). Esta compa\u00f1\u00eda, aunque realiz\u00f3 en 2020 otras tres mergers and acquisitions<\/a> m\u00e1s, fue uno de los a\u00f1os con menos actividad para la empresa en cuanto a mergers and acquisitions<\/a> area of expertise.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For its part, Plurasight, a company already defined in the article \"...\", is a company that has already been in operation for several years.EdTech Sector Leaders and Global Presence<\/a>\u201d es una plataforma de Tecnolog\u00eda Educativa para la ense\u00f1anza de desarrolladores de software, administradores IT y profesionales de generadores de contenido. La compa\u00f1\u00eda, a su vez, tiene un total de once mergers and acquisitions<\/a> todas ellas realizadas con la educaci\u00f3n tecnol\u00f3gica o el software empresarial.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The deal closed at a total value of USD 3.5 billion, making it the largest ever purchase in the EdTech sector.

Mayores mergers and acquisitions<\/a> en 2020: Adtalem Global Education adquiere Waldem University por 1.480 millones de d\u00f3lares<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Esta compra se anunci\u00f3 el d\u00eda 11 de septiembre de 2020 situ\u00e1ndose como la segunda de las mayores mergers and acquisitions<\/a> en 2020. Adtalem Global Education, proveedor de servicios educativos, compr\u00f3 por 1.480 millones de d\u00f3lares a Waldem University, universidad online de Minnesota, Estados Unidos.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This university founded in 1970 has always aimed to make higher education more accessible so that people can make the world, as they describe on their website, a better place. They want to adapt better and better to new technologies, to new learning options and to create new forms of social change.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In turn, Adtalem Global Education seeks to empower students and members to achieve their goals, find success and make inspiring contributions to the global community. The latter makes clear the common goal of both companies and the reason for this acquisition.

Most active buyers in the sector<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

En cuanto a las compa\u00f1\u00edas del sector m\u00e1s activas en cuanto a n\u00famero de mergers and acquisitions<\/a> se encuentran Pearson<\/a>, Fujitsu <\/a>and Scholastic<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

La primera de ellas tiene un total de 35 mergers and acquisitions<\/a> y se consolida como la empresa de EdTech con mayor n\u00famero de mergers and acquisitions<\/a>. Nueve de las mergers and acquisitions<\/a> son, a su vez, a empresas EdTech y siendo la mayor\u00eda de ellas a empresas del sector de la educaci\u00f3n en general.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Por otro lado, est\u00e1 Fujitu. Esta empresa presente en varios sectores, entre ellos el de la Tecnolog\u00eda Educativa, ha realizado a lo largo de su historia 19 mergers and acquisitions<\/a> siendo la mayor\u00eda a empresas de software. Fujitsu es una compa\u00f1\u00eda que ofrece soluciones de comunicaci\u00f3n principalmente.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Por \u00faltimo, en este top 3 est\u00e1 Sholastic, editorial l\u00edder en libros infantiles que adem\u00e1s conecta a educadores y familias a trav\u00e9s de una plataforma. Scholastic ha realizado 17 mergers and acquisitions<\/a>, siendo la mayor\u00eda de las empresas adquiridas del sector de la educaci\u00f3n y del mundo editorial.
