In 2015, 625 new private equity entities were created worldwide, according to a study conducted by the statistics service Preqin. In Spain we have also witnessed the emergence of new funds. In the last month, for example, funds that are not very common in our country have been created, such as a debt fund and one dedicated to scientific research.<\/span><\/address>\n

Resilience partner: debt fund <\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Resilience Partners<\/a><\/span>is a fund for medium-sized companies that intend to grow, rather than by injecting capital with long-term debt<\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n

The firm is driven by Agust\u00ed Pla, one of the pioneers of venture capital in Catalonia. In 1992 he opened 3i's Barcelona office and worked for the British investment group until last year.<\/span><\/p>\n

\"As we mentioned in a previous post, debt funds, which are already very popular in the USA and Great Britain, are beginning to break into the Spanish market. At the beginning they were all foreign funds, but we have already seen how national funds have been created, such as the one created by Renta 4 Bank\u00a0<\/span><\/a>and AFI and \" comments Diego Gutierrez of Abra-Invest.<\/a><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

According to Pla, the first closing of the \u20ac50 million fund will take place before March next year. The ultimate goal is for the vehicle - a Luxembourg-based private equity investment company (Sicar) - to have between \u20ac100 million and \u20ac150 million at its disposal.<\/span><\/p>\n

Pla explains that these resources will come from Spanish, European and US investors, such as pension funds, insurance companies and family offices, as well as public entities.<\/span><\/p>\n

The venture capital company of the <\/strong>MWC seeks private capital to re-launch 110 young businesses<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0mVenturesBCN<\/span> will create three accelerator programmes per year with private equity partners. From this coalition will emerge a union of companies or\u00a0joint venture<\/em>\u00a0that will muscle ten\u00a0start-ups<\/span>. The operation will be repeated over three years, launching 90 young enterprises.<\/span><\/p>\n

The mVentures company will not be a normal venture capital company. It will seek to accelerate global talent projects that set up in Barcelona, and then seek a return, perhaps by selling the stake that mVentures has in them.<\/span><\/p>\n

Two Valencian scientists create Columbus Ventures Partners<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Dami\u00e0 Tormo Carulla and Javier Garc\u00eda Cogorro have created the \u20ac50M Columbus Ventures Partners fund.<\/span><\/p>\n

This is a fund with a target of \u20ac50m, the first closing of which is expected to take place next January and we estimate to have \u20ac25m.<\/span><\/p>\n

The company seeks to develop early, quasi-laboratory Spanish science and bring it to a value inflection point with investors, who are mainly foreigners from the US and Europe where they have good contacts.<\/span><\/p>\n

Given their experience and knowledge of the field, the formula for success for these entrepreneurs Garc\u00eda and Tormo is to find co-investors.<\/span><\/p>\n

\"Foreign investors tend to come to our country accompanied, they like to have someone close to them who knows this market because Spanish legislation is not as flexible in business terms as American and\/or English legislation. But when quality Spanish science is presented, people recognise it and the problem of whether to invest or not is secondary\".<\/span><\/p>\n
