One of the great challenges of the biotech sector in Spain is the growth of companies in the sector that will make it possible for Spanish biotech companies to be strong and compete in the international market. Getting funding in the sector is complicated but not impossible, in the last month we have witnessed how Spanish companies have grown through mergers and acquisitions<\/a>public funding and programmes to support start-ups.<\/span><\/address>\n

Tigenix buys CoreTheraphics<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

TiGenix<\/span>\u00a0a leading European cell therapy company with a strong platform of clinical-stage adult stem cell programmes and a marketed product, has acquired Spanish company Coretherapix<\/span>,<\/span> belonging to Genetrix<\/span> <\/span>and dedicated to the development of cardiac cell therapies.<\/span><\/p>\n

The purchase allows Tigenix to enter new markets with a cardiac stem cell platform that could be developed for other heart diseases.<\/span><\/p>\n

\"In 2013 Grifols bought a 21.3% stake in Tigenix becoming its largest shareholder and is currently considering listing Tigenix on the US stock exchange,\" says Diego Gutierrez of Grifols. Abra-Invest.<\/a><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Ekuore receives support from Europe<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

The company eKuore<\/span>one of the winning projects of Lanzadera, has received 50,000 euros of investment in the Horizon 2020 Programme.\u00a0<\/strong>for the launch of its eKuore Pro medical stethoscope.<\/span><\/p>\n

eKuore Pro, which will be launched in the last quarter of 2015, is the first stethoscope capable of\u00a0<\/strong>transmitir la auscultaci\u00f3n a ‘smartphones’, ‘tablets’ y equipos de audio,<\/strong> and also measures beats per minute, records auscultation and filters the sound of the heart or lungs, with entirely Spanish technology.<\/span><\/p>\n

The funding obtained is focused on feasibility studies, competitor studies, new business models, marketing, risk analysis and intellectual property studies.<\/span><\/p>\n

Bayer brings Grants4Apps\u00ae initiative to Spain to support innovative healthcare startups<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

After three successful years in Berlin, the programme Grants4Apps\u00a0<\/a><\/span> arrives in Spain through Grants4Apps Coworking Barcelona, an initiative aimed at\u00a0startups<\/em>\u00a0with innovative e-health projects - from applications to medical devices, including software or hardware - that contribute to the improvement of health and\/or pharmaceutical processes.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0The programme offers five\u00a0startups<\/em>\u00a0un espacio de trabajo en las oficinas de Bayer en Sant Joan Desp\u00ed (Barcelona) durante seis meses (de octubre a marzo) sin ning\u00fan coste, con un despacho para cada equipo seleccionado y con salas de reuniones. \u00a0El objetivo de esta iniciativa es apoyar el emprendimiento y la innovaci\u00f3n en salud digital mediante la promoci\u00f3n y el apoyo de proyectos dirigidos a profesionales de la salud y pacientes.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0In addition, the programme offers\u00a0mentoring<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0coaching<\/em>\u00a0The Bayer Group's experts and external specialists will provide personalised advice and support,\u00a0networking<\/em>The G4A Chillout Networking area, contact with potential investors and a 'G4A Chillout Networking' area to enhance communication between the\u00a0startups<\/em>\u00a0and Bayer employees.<\/span><\/p>\n
