The use of new technologies in the tourism sector has many advantages when it comes to saving costs and reaching end customers. In recent years, several companies have been created in the sector that have been able to grow thanks to the support of investors who have seen an opportunity in the sector, and it is expected that this trend will continue to grow in the coming years. <\/span><\/address>\n

So far this year, 90 rounds have been conducted in technology companies in the tourism sector for an amount of $1084M, an amount that already exceeds the $1022M raised last year in 114 rounds.<\/span><\/p>\n

This is due to the fact that this year venture operations have been closed for a fairly large amount in large companies, which had already received financing before, such as Airbnb<\/span>The Chinese Tujia, a worldwide room rental website, which closed a $475M round and China Tujia which closed a $100M round.<\/span><\/p>\n

\"Within the sector, which is still growing, there are already companies that are taking the lead and, in order to stay ahead of the competition, they are attracting large amounts of investment to accelerate their growth,\" says Diego Gutierrez from <\/span>Abra Invest.<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n

Large firms have made a strong commitment to the sector, such as Sequoia capital<\/a><\/span> whose investment model is to invest small amounts in many companies, in 2013 invested a significantly higher amount than its average investment in Skyscanner<\/a><\/span>the world's second largest flight search company.<\/span><\/p>\n

Acquisitions in the sector<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Otra de las formas que est\u00e1n usando las empresas del sector para crecer y abrirse a nuevos mercados son las mergers and acquisitions<\/a>. En este a\u00f1o 2014 ya se han realizado 28 operaciones, cifra que supera las 25 realizadas en todo el a\u00f1o 2013.<\/span><\/p>\n

Hay varias grandes empresas Americanas que han realizado un gran n\u00famero de mergers and acquisitions<\/a> en el sector como Tripadvisor<\/span> y Homeway, que han realizado 19 compras cada uno.<\/span><\/p>\n

Technological sector applied to tourism in Spain<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

In recent years, IT-oriented companies have also emerged in Spain in the tourism sector and several of them have received funding rounds, such as Minubee<\/span>,<\/a> Trip4real<\/span> and Byhours.<\/a><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

In addition, the government is encouraging this type of business with grants such as the one for Emprendetur,<\/span> focused on financing R&D projects related to technological innovation and tourism with the aim of supporting research and development applied to products in the tourism sector. The programme, which has been very successful in previous years, is expected to open next November and will be open for a period of 2 months.<\/span><\/p>\n
