American investors have been investing in the sector for a number of years, with very good results, such as\u00a0Hannon Armstrong,<\/span><\/a><\/span>\u00a0which last year made its debut on the New York stock exchange, with notable success. In Spain, the first funds focused on this sector are already being created.<\/span><\/address>\n

Companies that have received the most rounds<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

There are companies that have received a lot of money in the sector. The company at the top of the list is\u00a0Bloom Energy<\/span><\/a><\/span>achieving a total of 980M$. This company, which is dedicated to producing clean energy through \"Bloom Boxes\", has made 5 financing rounds<\/strong> in which 10 investors took part, including leading funds such as\u00a0Apex Venture Partners<\/span><\/span>,\u00a0Credit Suisse<\/span><\/a><\/span>,\u00a0GSV Capital<\/span><\/a><\/span>\u00a0and\u00a0Mobius Venture Capital<\/span><\/a><\/span>. The latest financing round<\/strong> was carried out in May 2013 and amounted to $130M.<\/span><\/p>\n

Emergence of energy efficiency funds in Spain<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Sector-focused funds are appearing in Spain. The Catalan fund manager\u00a0Suma Capital<\/span><\/a><\/span>\u00a0has this summer raised a \u20ac20M fund focused solely on financing investments<\/strong> linked to energy efficiency. The vehicle, which is called Suma Capital Energy Efficiency Fund, is supported by the\u00a0Official Credit Institute<\/span><\/a><\/span>\u00a0(ICO). This type of vehicle is a investment<\/strong> is not oriented towards investing in technology companies with a venture capital<\/strong> but in installation projects where the return comes from the energy savings achieved.<\/span><\/p>\n

In addition, the need to invest in this type of project has led to the appearance of public funds such as the Jessica fund, which has a budget of \u20ac123 million and is co-financed by the European Commission.\u00a0ERDF<\/span><\/span><\/span>\u00a0(European Regional Development Fund).<\/span><\/p>\n

Spanish companies that have received rounds<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

There are also Spanish companies that have already benefited from financing rounds, such as\u00a0Optimitive<\/span>\u00a0and\u00a0Onyx Solar<\/span><\/a><\/span>. Optimitive develops artificial intelligence solutions to optimise energy efficiency in large industrial centres. This startup, based in \u00c1lava, received last year a \u20ac1.4 M round of funding from\u00a0GGM Venture Capital.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The engineering and consultancy firm Onyx Solar, specialised in building integrated photovoltaics (BIPV), has closed a\u00a0 financing round<\/strong> with the venture capital fund\u00a0Fides<\/span><\/span><\/span>in September last year.<\/span><\/p>\n
