In recent years, the entry of new technology in the oil and gas sector and the recovery of the US as the leading oil and gas producer has encouraged venture capital to invest in the sector, which in the last half of 2013 reached its highest investment figure, with a total of $149M in 10 deals. In addition, thanks to foreign buyers, and the use of new technologies to extract shale gas, the shale gas market has become more attractive to foreign investors. M&A transactions<\/a> and mergers and acquisitions<\/a> reached its highest volume in the last decade in the first quarter of 2014.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/address>\n

Major funding rounds in the Sector in recent years<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

GlassPoint Solar Inc<\/span><\/span>a leader in enhanced oil recovery closed a $26M round. The round<\/strong> incorporated a new inverter<\/strong> strategic, the group\u00a0Royal Dutch Shell plc<\/span><\/a><\/span>one of the world's biggest oil companies, as well as\u00a0 investors<\/strong> leading energy companies such as\u00a0RockPort Capital<\/span><\/a><\/span>,\u00a0Nth Power<\/span><\/span>\u00a0and\u00a0Chrysalix Energy Venture Capital.<\/span><\/a><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Fotech<\/span><\/a><\/span>a company dedicated to acoustic monitoring with applications in the oil and gas industry for the purpose of leak detection, closed a $12.9M round in 2008 in which it participated.\u00a0Scottish Equity Partners<\/span><\/a><\/span>,\u00a0Energy Ventures<\/span><\/a><\/span>\u00a0and\u00a0Shoaibi Group.<\/span><\/a><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Primus Green Energy<\/span><\/span><\/span>Primus Green Energy, which develops new technology to produce alternative fuels from carbon-rich materials, raised $7M last year. In total Primus Green Energy has already completed 6 rounds of financing, raising a total of $85M.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0 The first quarter of 2014 has seen the highest volumes in the sector for 10 years, with an increase in foreign buyers and deals in the shale extraction sector.\u00a0<\/span>
\nThe compradores<\/strong> A total of 12 foreign deals were done in the first quarter of 2014, a total of $8300M, a figure 42% higher than the same period in the previous year.<\/span><\/p>\n

Within the extraction-related activities, shale extraction has been quite important, with 14 operations in the sector totalling $5.7 billion.<\/span><\/p>\n
