Experience in the biotechnology sector<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

La Caixa already had,\u00a0Caixa Capital BioMed<\/span><\/span>The company, a private equity<\/strong> with a total committed capital of \u20ac23 million to invest in medical technology, new therapies, diagnostics and services. Since its creation in 2011, the vehicle has invested<\/strong> 14m in 13 companies, which have raised more than private investment<\/strong> national and international support for their business projects.<\/span><\/p>\n

Transactions carried out<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Among the companies that have received funding are\u00a0STAT-DIAGNOSTICA<\/span><\/a><\/span>\u00a0which designs, develops, manufactures and markets a system that integrates molecular diagnostic and immunoassay tests in a device and cartridges. Together with Caixa Capital BioMed also participated in the series B round, which raised \u20ac17M.\u00a0\u00a0Kurma Life Sciences Partners<\/span><\/a><\/span>,\u00a0\u00a0Ysios Capital,<\/span><\/a><\/span>\u00a0Axis<\/span><\/a><\/span>,\u00a0\u00a0Idinvest<\/span><\/a><\/span>,\u00a0Boehringer Ingelheim Venture Fund.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Another recent operation, carried out in February 2014, involves\u00a0Genmedica Therapeutics.\u00a0<\/span><\/a><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The Catalan biopharmaceutical company Genmedica Therapeutics has completed a financing round<\/strong> 1M to finance the development of a drug for the treatment of type 2 diabetes. The capital increase was mainly covered by the company's own shareholders, including Caixa Capital Risc.<\/span><\/p>\n

Caixa Invests Biomed<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

The new fund, Caixa Innvierte BioMed II, which has the support of the\u00a0CDTI<\/span><\/a><\/span>\u00a0and will have an investment volume of \u20ac35M will enable Caixa Capital BioMed to complete its investment period and focus on the value creation of its investee companies.<\/span><\/p>\n

\"The creation of the new fund<\/strong> shows us the interest that Caixa Capital Risc , which sees an opportunity in the Biotechnology sector, and according to the latest report of the Spanish Association of Biocompanies (ASEBIO<\/span><\/a><\/span>), Spain ranks ninth in the world and fifth at European level in scientific production, a sector that in 2013 accounted for 7.15% of Spain's GDP. In 2011, there were 3,025 companies related to biotechnology activities in the country. There is a strong culture of spin-off in the sector, with between 10 and 12 new companies being created every year from public institutions,\" says Diego Gutierrez, the group's expert in alternative finance.\u00a0Abra Invest.<\/span><\/a><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
