In the last few years, the number of companies that invest in startups<\/strong> technology-based innovation. The main cause of this phenomenon is that companies are moving to an open innovation model, they are looking for innovation through new mergers and acquisitions<\/a>.<\/span><\/address>\n

Companies launching accelerators<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Until a few years ago\u00a0Google ventures\u00a0<\/span><\/a><\/span>was the only company that was committed to invest<\/strong> in early-stage start-ups. Now companies such as\u00a0Siemens<\/span><\/a><\/span>,\u00a0Coca-Cola<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/a>\u00a0,\u00a0Warner Bros<\/span><\/a><\/span>\u00a0or\u00a0Disney\u00a0<\/span><\/span>\u00a0have acceleration programmes.<\/span><\/p>\n

\"In Spain, too, they are appearing accelerators<\/strong> launched by companies, such as the case of\u00a0Wayra\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/a>or Caf ventures. Wayra is the accelerator<\/strong> de\u00a0telephone<\/span><\/a><\/span>\u00a0which today is presenting its demoday to investors at the\u00a0mobile World Congress<\/span><\/a><\/span>\u00a0which is held in Barcelona. Caf <\/a>ventures is the accelerator of\u00a0Caf,<\/span><\/a><\/span>\u00a0a company specialising in the railway sector, with the aim of finding new companies that bring freshness to the sector\". Says Diego Gutierrez, an expert in alternative financing, from the group.\u00a0Abra-invest.<\/span><\/a><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Investments in second rounds<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

The tables below show the corporate investments<\/strong> in seed capital companies and in phase A and B rounds respectively. As we can see, investment is higher in more advanced companies, which have already received a round in the past.<\/span><\/p>\n

SK Telecom Americas<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Companies such as\u00a0SK Telecom Americas<\/span><\/span>,<\/a> have seen in the corporate investments<\/strong> a necessity rather than an investment. SK Telecom saw a lack of investment in what it defined as 'core technology' so it decided to allocate $10M of its own balance sheet to create\u00a0Innovation Accelerator SKTA.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
