Opportunity in the Baas sector<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

From 2010 onwards, when the mobility sector started to grow very rapidly, venture capital saw an opportunity in Baas companies.\u00a0Kii\u00a0<\/span><\/a><\/span>backed by\u00a0Fenox venture capital\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span>with $7.3M in October 2010,\u00a0Kinvey<\/span><\/a><\/span>\u00a0financed by\u00a0Atlas venture<\/span><\/a><\/span>\u00a0with $5M in 2012, and\u00a0Firebase\u00a0<\/span><\/a><\/span>by\u00a0Union Square Ventures\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span>and others with $5.6M in June 2013. In total, companies working in this activity have raised $ 152M in 36 transactions since 2010.<\/span><\/p>\n

\"These systems allow mobile application developers to connect and synchronise various cloud services in real time in a single cloud backend, allowing them to focus their resources on development rather than on infrastructure,\" says Diego Gutierrez from\u00a0Abra Invest.<\/span><\/a><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

M&A in the Baas sector<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

There have only been 5 sales transactions since 2012. Perhaps the most important acquisition has been the acquisition of the cloud app platform\u00a0Parse\u00a0<\/span><\/a><\/span>by\u00a0Facebook\u00a0<\/span><\/a><\/span>$90M in April 2013.The company was backed by venture capital\u00a0Ignition Partners.<\/span><\/a><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

In December 2013\u00a0Paypal\u00a0<\/span><\/a><\/span>acquired\u00a0Stackmob,<\/span><\/span>\u00a0a Baas platform backed by\u00a0Trinity Ventures\u00a0<\/span><\/a><\/span>and\u00a0Baselina Ventures.<\/span><\/a><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
