According to CBinsights, among the IPOs in 2013, the security networking company stands out.\u00a0FireEye<\/a>\u00a0which has doubled since its debut on the Nasdaq. But this case has not been the only successful sale recently; over the past year, 78 companies have been sold within the sector. There are also relevant cases in Spain, such as Alien Vault.<\/p>\n

$1.4Bn of investment in the last year<\/strong><\/p>\n

Topping the list of the most active investors are heavyweights like\u00a0Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers\u00a0<\/a>and\u00a0Andreessen Horowitz<\/a>\u00a0with 13 deals each. KPCB's latest cybersecurity financing rounds include AlienVault and\u00a0\u00a0Ionic Security.\u00a0<\/a>KPCB also participated in a funding round in 2011 for\u00a0Mandiant<\/a>the Virginia-based information security firm that exposed China's military unit in hacking with US corporations and government agencies. Andreessen Horowitz, meanwhile, has recently been involved in a number of early stage cyber security deals, including a Series A round in\u00a0BlueBox,<\/a>\u00a0Pindrop Security and\u00a0CipherCloud.<\/a><\/p>\n

Spain presents several relevant cases<\/strong><\/p>\n

The most recent and relevant case has been Alien Vault, a Spanish company dedicated to providing unified security management and threat intelligence solutions through crowdsourcing, which has just completed a new funding round worth $26.5M led by\u00a0GGV Capital\u00a0<\/a>and which has also involved current investors such as\u00a0Trident Capital,<\/a>\u00a0Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers<\/a>,\u00a0Sigma West\u00a0<\/a>and\u00a0Adara Venture Partners, <\/a>just as new top-tier investors Top Tier Capital have been brought in and\u00a0Correlation Ventures.<\/a><\/p>\n

\u00abSpain has presented success stories over recent years since the Bilbao-based company\u00a0<\/a>Panda Software<\/a>\u00a0received a $14M round of funding in a round led by Investindustrial. Another leading company with international projection is <\/a>S21sec<\/a> which is dedicated to the protection of digital assets in order to successfully and timely respond to online fraud and cybersecurity threats. Telvent is the lead industrial partner with the acquisition of Telvent's stake in the company.\u00a0<\/a>SODENA\u00a0<\/a>(20%) within the company. These companies have made very significant efforts towards their internationalisation and have headquarters abroad\u00a0<\/a>ABRA INVEST<\/a>.<\/a><\/p>\n

Intel leads the ranking of companies sold<\/strong><\/p>\n

Intel is one of the top 3 most active investors in cyber security. Following the purchase of anti-virus company McFee in 2011, its investment arm has been very active with several sales in the cyber security sector in 2012. Among the latest cyber security exits from\u00a0Intel Capital<\/a>\u00a0intelcapital<\/a>includes the security company\u00a0Credant Technologies<\/span>\u00a0(acquired by Dell), as well as\u00a0Solera Networks\u00a0<\/a>acquired by Blue Coat system). Jafco Ventures has also experienced recent exits, including 41st Parameter, a device recognition startup acquired by Experian, and the intellectual property offices of\u00a0FireEye<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Palo Alto Networks<\/a>.<\/p>\n
